Men’s Soccer Loses Late to Region V Opponent, William Jewell

MBU looked poised to win a crucial RegionV match at William Jewell for 75 minutes. Junior Midfielder Hernan Merino continued his strong play by putting the Spartans on top in the 30th minute with a 30 yard free kick in the corner. Early in the second half Junior Forward Rackley Thomas missed two chances to double the MBU lead. However, MBU could not hang on as William Jewell midfielder Jacob Patton scored on a 30 yard free kick to tie the game. With four minutes left William Jewell midfielder Clint Wyllie scored the game winning goal off a rebound. The Spartans are now 1-2 on the year and travel to Lindenwood to face the #1 team in the Country at 8:00 pm.

“I am disappointed in our result and our team. I give credit to William Jewell. They kept attacking and working hard and eventually we cracked and gave them the game. Our team has to learn to finish games like these and come away with victories. We couldn’t keep the ball well enough today to kill the game. We must get better” stated MBU Head Coach, Jared Embick.
