Cross Country Teams Claim Two Team Titles
The Missouri Baptist University Mens and Womens Cross Country Teams walked away from the Maryville Invitational Saturday with one individual winner and two team titles. Cutting through the early morning fog, the MBU harriers dominated the competition easily outdistancing their opponents.
The Spartan men were once again paced by sophomore Vincent Morogah, who won the men's individual title with a time of 16:00 on the wet and hilly 5 kilometer course. Morogah led a pack of three MBU athletes in the top five. Sophomore All American Denis-Bull Olinga helped set the pace throughout the race, finishing 3rd in 16:09. Justin Moss (Festus) had a strong race to finish 5th overall in 17:33. Pat Anderson (O'Fallon, IL) and Chad Hammontree (Desoto, MO) rounded out the scoring to help lead the men to a first place finish in the six team race.
With five runners in the top 11, the ladies defeated seven other teams to earn the first team title in the program's history. Paced by freshman Holly Shaffer (Cape Central, MO) and sophomore Maresia Pencil, the Lady Spartans ran a strong team race to walk away with a trophy. The ladies scoring was rounded out by Megan Edsall (Alton IL), Sarah Vinslauski (Festus) and Denele DeVerteuil.
