Women's Volleyball Stands at Number Nine in the Nation (September 29, 2005)
The Lady Spartans improved their overall record to 11-2 with last night’s three game victory over Harris Stowe State College. Scores were; 30-6, 30-11, 30-10. MBU is ranked number nine in the latest NAIA National Polls. The team travels to the Lindenwood Tournament Friday. The first match is slated for1:00 PM and the second match is set for 5:00 PM. The team will play at the Lindenwood Tourney again on Saturday. Times are 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.…

Men's Soccer Opens Up AMC Play With Win at HLG (September 28, 2005)
The Spartans started out sluggish, but turned things around in the second half en route to a 2-0 conference win over Hannibal LaGrange College. MBU could not get on board until the 32nd minute when Spartans junior midfielder Hernan Merino booted in the first goal from 45 yards out. MBU got their second goal five minutes later when Brock Chatman slid a ball over to MBU junior Gunther Koste, who scored his first goal of the season. Men's soccer Extends Winning Streak to Four (September 26, 2005)
MBU went on the road to Missouri Valley College and won an important Region V contest. Missouri Baptist University controlled the game from the start. Lawrence Olum had a chance to put MBU on the board 30 minutes into the game when, but he missed a penalty kick. Five minutes later MBU’s Brock Chatman got a breakaway (assisted by junior forward Rackley Thomas) as Chatman slid the ball past the MVC keeper for the Spartans only goal of the game. Men's Golf Finishes Second at the SIUE Invite (September 26, 2005)
The Spartan Linksters claimed second place out of seven teams at the SIUE Invitational. MBU finished second place with a team score of 296. SIUE won the tournament with a team score of 295. MBU’s Erik Rios took first place with individual scores of 69 and 73. Rios won in a one hole playoff. MBU’s Ryan Howell took 3rd place shooting 69 and 76 and Danny Manselle took 5th place with scores of 75 and 73. The Women’s tournament played at Missouri Valley College was shortened to 18 holes due to rain. The tournament hosted five teams and 44 players.…

Women's Cross Country Places 4th at Miner Invite (September 26, 2005)
The MBU women's cross country team traveled to Rolla, Missouri, Saturday to compete in the Miner Invitation. The Lady Spartans earned a 4th place finish defeating host school Rolla and conference foe Hannibal LaGrange among others along the way. Led by freshman Holly Shaffer, the women continue to improve each week with everyone running their best times of the year. Strong performances by Maresia Pencil, Sarah Vinslauski, Danielle Skaggs, and Nicola Smith carried the team scoring despite losing Megan Edsall to an injury early in the competition. Ryan Edwards Selected First Pick of the CBA’s Rockford Lightning (September 21, 2005)
Missouri Baptist University graduate, Ryan Edwards, has signed to play for the Continental Basketball Association’s (CBA) Rockford Lightning. After two seasons as Missouri Baptist’s leading scorer, American Midwest Conference all-conference pick and one year as an All-American selection, the Lightning chose Edwards as their first-round pick, No. 6 overall, in Tuesday night’s 20th annual CBA Draft. Edwards, a 2005 graduate, went to Carthage College for his first two years of college basketball out of high school. Cross Country Teams Claim Two Team Titles (September 19, 2005)
The Missouri Baptist University Mens and Womens Cross Country Teams walked away from the Maryville Invitational Saturday with one individual winner and two team titles. Cutting through the early morning fog, the MBU harriers dominated the competition easily outdistancing their opponents. The Spartan men were once again paced by sophomore Vincent Morogah, who won the men's individual title with a time of 16:00 on the wet and hilly 5 kilometer course. Jackie Evans Makes a Career Out of Softall (September 16, 2005)
Missouri Baptist University graduate, Jackie Evans, spent her summer in hopes of making a career out of what she loves most, playing softball. Evans was selected to the 2005 summer National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF) and played her summer days in the sun for the NPF’s Arizona Heat. The Arizona Heat is the professional expansion team for the Phoenix Flames. Evans, a native of Maryland Heights, Missouri, played for the Lady Spartans from 2002-2005. Men's Soccer Upsets Top Team in the Country (September 14, 2005)
Missouri Baptist University shocked the NAIA soccer world last night when they did the unthinkable. The Spartans, 1-2 going into the game, went onto the defending 2004 National Champions field, Lindenwood University, and pulled out a 1-0 victory. Lindenwood is currently ranked number one in the National NAIA polls. MBU senior midfielder Felipe Alvarez scored the game winning goal 20 minutes into the game with a shot from 25 yards out. Women's Volleyball Ranked Number One in Region Play Eleventh Overall (September 12, 2005)
The Lady Spartans now boast of being the number one ranked team in the latest Region V rankings with a 7-2 record. MBU claimed the top spot after three convincing victories over the weekend, including a three game win over NAIA number four Columbia College. Columbia is number two in the Regional rankings with a record of 8-1 followed by Lindenwood University at number three with a record of 9-4. Men's Golf Places Seventh at Opening Tourney (September 12, 2005)
The Spartan Linksters opened up the 2005 season with 52 holes at the Missouri Intercollegiate Tournament held at Porto Cima Golf Club in Lake of the Ozarks, MO. MBU placed seventh as a team out of 19 teams represented. The University of Missouri, NCAA Division One placed first as a team. Next up for MBU Golf Teams; the Women's team is at Missouri Valley College on September 22nd and 23rd and the MBU Men are at SIUE September 18th and 19th. Men’s Soccer Loses Late to Region V Opponent, William Jewell (September 12, 2005)
MBU looked poised to win a crucial RegionV match at William Jewell for 75 minutes. Junior Midfielder Hernan Merino continued his strong play by putting the Spartans on top in the 30th minute with a 30 yard free kick in the corner. Early in the second half Junior Forward Rackley Thomas missed two chances to double the MBU lead. Women's Volleyball Defeats the Number four Team in the Land, Columbia College (September 10, 2005)
The Lady Spartans defeated Columbia College, the fourth ranked team the NAIA National Volleyball polls on Saturday. Scores were; 31-29, 30-21, and 33-31. MBU defeated Columbia in the third game of the Graceland University (IA) Tournament. The Lady Spartans placed second in tournament play after a championship game loss late Saturday afternoon to the second ranked team in the nation, National America University (SD). Soccer Teams Fall to William Jewel (September 9, 2005)
The MBU Men's and Women's soccer teams traveled to William Jewel University and lost 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. In Men's action, the Spartans struck first, but gave up two goals in the final 15 minutes and fell by a final of 2-1. The Spartans are 1-2 on the season. In Women's action, MBU fought hard for 83 minutes, but gave up the lone goal of the game in the final seven minutes and lost 1-0. They stand at 3-1 on the season. Women's Volleyball Stands at Number 19 in the Nation (September 7, 2005)
As of September 7th, The Lady Spartans Volleyball team is ranked number 19 in the National NAIA polls. Missouri Baptist University was unranked just a week ago, but wins over NAIA # 14 Iowa Wesleyan College and Olivet Nazarene University propelled the Lady Spartans into the National polls. Men's Soccer Splits weekend Trip (September 6, 2005)
In their first game of the season MBU rallied from a two goal deficit in the first half to defeat St. Ambrose University 3-2 in overtime. St. Ambrose got the lead first in the 30 minutes in when Greg Lehman touch it over the MBU defender and shot it past the goalie for the lead. St. Ambrose doubled the lead on Greg Lehman second goal in the 55th minute. The goal came form a counterattack after MBU gave the ball away. Cross Country Opens 2005 Season Strong (September 6, 2005)
The Missouri Baptist University Cross Country teams started off their 2005 season at the Washington University Early Bird Invitational. Both teams look to build on a strong 2004 campaign that saw the men take home the AMC conference title. Saturday, the men were led by sophomore Vincent Morogah. Morogah won the men's 5000 meter race in 15:56. The Spartan men finished 5th overall with Justin Moss, Pat Anderson, Terry Wood, and Chad Hammontree following Morogah's lead. The Lady Spartans got two second half goals for the 2-1 come from behind win over Crighton College. Crighton, a first year program, scored just three minutes into the game.
