Women's Golf Finishes Season Strong (April 28, 2005)
The Lady Spartans Golf team finished the season fourth out of nine teams in Region V tournament play. This was the first season that Missouri Baptist University fielded a Women’s Golf team. MBU posted a score of 370 after the first round of tournament play and a score of 365 in the second round of tournament play hosted in Smithville, MO. MBU’s Ashlee Claydon was named to the First Team All Region with scores of 86 and 86 respectively in the two rounds of action. “I would definitely call this a successful season” stated head coach Josh Buffington. “Finishing fourth…

Men's Golf Claims AMC Title (April 28, 2005)
Missouri Baptist University Men’s Golf Team won the AMC team championship by 32 shots over defending champion William Woods University. MBU’s Danny Manselle led all scorers with a personal score of 143 and is the AMC 2005 Individual Champion. Missouri Baptist Bowling Places at National Tourney (April 27, 2005)
The Missouri Baptist University Women’s Bowling team participated in college bowling’s largest and most prestigious event; The Intercollegiate Bowling Championships. This four day event is a mixture of honors, recognition, social expression and the crowing tournament of the season. While merely reaching this event is a tremendous tribute, the grueling format makes this one of the toughest competitions that collegians can enter. At the awards dinner on Wednesday, Missouri Baptist students were again recognized for the Academic All-American status. MBU’s Ryan Edwards Will Continue His Basketball Career in the World Basketball Association (April 22, 2005)
Ryan Edwards, a MBU standout and graduating senior has been selected to play in the World Basketball Association (WBA). In the WBA’s 2005 College Player Draft, Ryan was selected by the Rome Gladiators out of Georgia. The Head Coach of the Gladiators, Harold Ellis, is also a scout for the NBA team Atlanta Hawks. The WBA is a professional basketball league that serves as a teaching, developing, and exposing tool for players that desire to go on to the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), or the United States Basketball League (USBL). The Missouri Baptist Track & Field team enjoyed several strong performances Saturday at the McKendree Classic. Despite resting several athletes this weekend, MBU still walked away with 9 event wins. Nickesha Anderson continued her unbeaten streak this outdoor season with event wins in the 100 (11.61) and 200 (24.00). Rachel Baldwin and Maresia Pencil both ran qualifying performances in their races as well. Baldwin came through with a big improvement in the 100 with a time of 12.11. Men's Volleyball Wins MAMVIC Tourney (April 12, 2005)
The MBU Men’s Volleyball team won the MAMVIC Conference Tournament this past weekend in Kansas City. MBU defeated Graceland College on Friday 22-30, 30-24, 30-24, and 30-23. The team was lead by four different players having double digit kills. Junior setter, Frank Masek added 44 assists and 4 digs in the match. The semi-final match on Saturday against Missouri Valley College was a five game thriller. MBU won 27-30, 30-26, 34-32, 15-30, and 15-11. Sophomore Outside Hitter Ivan Lugonja had 20 kills in the match and Junior Middle Blocker came off the bench to add a late spark. The team…

Spartan Track and Field Heats Up Over the Weekend (April 11, 2005)
With 9 qualifying performances in their first 2 meets, the Missouri Baptist Track & Field program already looked in position to have a solid season. However, the MBU outdoor campaign heated up just like the weather this past weekend. Traveling to Eastern Illinois to compete against teams such as Ohio State, Illinois, Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, Illinois State, Bradley, and numerous other large schools in the Big Blue Classic, Missouri Baptist had perhaps their best meet of the year. Men's Golf Ranked 10th Nationally (April 8, 2005)
The NAIA Men’s Golf national rankings have been released and the Missouri Baptist University Linksters are ranked 10th among the nations best. After an impressive fall, the MBU Men’s Golf Team won two tournaments. The Linksters picked up where they left off in the spring schedule compiling a 32-1 record against NAIA teams. The Spartans lone loss comes to the current NAIA #1 team in the nation, Oklahoma Christian College, who they lost to by one stroke. The Spartan Linksters will be in action again when they travel to Madison, Ill to participate in the Billiken Invitational on April 11-12.…

Baseball Sweeps Lindenwood (April 7, 2005)
The Missouri Baptist University Baseball team swept a double header from Lindenwood University on Tuesday April 5. The Spartans won the opener 4-1 and the edged the Lions in the Night cap 4-3. The Spartans jumped on top in the top of the first inning in both games. In game one, Junior Ricky Simpson (Pevely/Jefferson College) led off with a single. Men's Basketball, Tony Tompkins, Named AMC Coach of the Year for Second Consecutive Year (April 6, 2005)
Missouri Baptist University Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Tony Tompkins, has been named the 2004-2005 American Midwest Conference Coach of the year. The presentation was made after the last Spartan home game on Saturday, March 8 in an 85-64 victory over McKendree College in the AMC Tournament Championship game. The honor was voted upon by the AMC men’s coaches. Tompkins, who is in his third season with the Spartans (73-23 overall record at MBU), was selected from a field of qualified AMC coaches. Women's Track Team Shines at Gatorade Classic (April 2, 2005)
The Missouri Baptist Women's Track & Field team traveled to Southeast Missouri State this weekend to compete in the 24th annual Gatorade Classic. Despite the blustery conditions, the Lady Spartans earned nine national qualifying performances and three event champions. Nickesha Anderson had a huge day by being a part of four of those qualifying performances. She continued her outstanding freshman campaign by earning gold in the 100 (11.65) and 200 (23.78) against a field loaded with Division I athletes.
