Head Women's Lacrosse Coach
Regan Downton comes to Missouri Baptist University from Averett University in Danville, Va. At Averett, Coach Downton took on a program that had been winless since its inception four years earlier. In her first year the team managed to post a 9-7 overall record and make it to the USA South Conference semi-finals. Several Averett players were subsequently named to the USA South All-Conference team, also a first in the program’s history. Before, coaching at Averett, Downton was an assistant coach at Drew University in Madison, NJ. In 2005, the team won the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA D-III tournament. The team finished the season 14-6 overall and advanced to the “Sweet 16” in the NCAA tournament.
Downton played her college lacrosse at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa where she was a 4 time All Middle Atlantic Conference(MAC) player. She broke or tied 13 school records and still holds the record for most goals in a game, most assists in a game, most assists in a season, most career assists and most career points. She also played in the 2004 North/South Senior All Star game. While at Messiah the team posted school record seasons 3 out of 4 years including their first ever trips to the MAC tournament.
Coach Downton is originally from Suffern, NY where she played lacrosse for Suffern High School. Regan was a four- year varsity starter for both the Soccer and Lacrosse teams where she excelled at defense. During her senior season the Suffern lacrosse team won the Conference 1 title and were the runners up for the New York State High School Lacrosse Tournament.
Beginning with the inaugural 2007 season, Coach Downton hopes to build Missouri Baptist into one of the premier lacrosse programs in the mid-west.
