Ray Farrell - Staff Profile
Head Men's Basketball Coach
Ray Farrell took over the helm of the men's basketball program in the summer
of 2007. Coach Farrell comes to Missouri Baptist University from Philadelphia
University, (NCAA Division II), where he has served as an Assistant Coach
since 2004. Philadelphia Head Coach Herb Magee is second in all-time coaching
wins at the NCAA Division II level, with 829 wins.
MBU will be Farrell’s first Head Coaching experience at the NAIA (National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) level, but he is no stranger to
the college game. That experience began in 1981, when he served as a Student
Assistant Coach at his alma mater West Chester State College. Over the past
26 years, Farrell has served as an Assistant Coach at several institutions,
most notably the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Cleveland State University
and Villanova University, all under Head Coach Roland Massimino.
Coach Farrell also has experience coaching at another NAIA Christian institution,
having served as an Associate Head Coach at the Master’s College in
California from 1995-1998.
Coach Farrell has had two stints as a Head Coach. One was with the University
of Texas at Dallas, from 1998-2000. The other was with McLennan Community
College during the 2000-2001 season.
Coach Farrell’s coaching experience also goes beyond the collegiate
level, as he served as the Personal Trainer and Coach of National Basketball
Association player Rolando Blackman, (of the Dallas Mavericks and New York
Knicks), from 1988-1998.
"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to coach at Missouri
Baptist University and to continue the tradition of success in the basketball
program," said Coach Farrell.
Coach Farrell is married to wife Ana, and they have three children: Marcello,
Gabriela & Mauricio.
