30 Years of Service

Hey, I just wanted to send a short note about a really good time I had this past Friday night. As has been the tradition since he first came to MoBap, Dr. Lacey once again hosted the annual President's Party for employees on Friday, August 25. All of our full-time faculty and staff are invited to this dinner when all of our new employees are introduced and other employees are recognized for years of service (5 yrs, 10 yrs, etc.). The growth of MBU is eveident in the welcoming of six new faculty and numerous new employees. Eight employees were recognized for 5 years of service, while five others were recognized for their 10 years spent at MBU.

However, the two individuals I want to talk about today are two gentleman that were honored for 30 years of service to the University. Most of you probably know Tom Puhse, because many of us had him for either Intro. to Biology or his Spring Wildflowers class, complete with numerous hikes into the woods around campus. And all of us know Arlen Dykstra, whether it is as a History professor from his early years in the 70's, or from his many years serving as Executive Vice-President, Provost, or Academic Dean. Both of these men have poured their lives into Missouri Baptist University and are a major part of building a legacy that makes MBU so special.

Please let me ask a favor of anyone who reads this blog - please consider dropping a card or e-mail, or even making a call to these two gentleman to let them know how much we appreciate their contributions to MBU. Mr. Puhse's e-mail address is puhse@mabap.edu and Dr. Dykstra's e-mail address is adykstra@mobap.edu.

Until next time,

Rob

MoBap East

Hey I just wanted to update everyone on a great weekend I just had. We had an alumni get-together at what many like to refer to as MoBap East - better known as Louisville, KY. With Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of Louisville in town several MBU Alumni now refer to Louisville, KY as their new home while they work on post-bachelors degrees. At last count we have nearly 30 MBU alumni living in the greater Louisville area. Several of them got together this past Saturday at the home of Joe('01) and Sarah(Hayes -'03) Costephens for a cook-out, games, and some time reminiscing about the good old days. Some of the others in attendance were Stephen('03) and Allison(Bryant -'05) Mobley, Ben('03) and Valerie (Parker) Leonard, Josh('00) and Sarah(Gruender - '02) Wilson, Eric('05) and Rebecca(McDonald - '05) Elves, and Josh Farris('04). Some pictures of the weekend are below.

I would love to plan something similar in other areas where we have a large contingent of MBU alumni. If you know of a large group in your area give me a call and we'll plan something.

Rob

New Employees

Sorry it has been awhile since I have last written. It has been a crazy few weeks. I just got back from an alumni conference at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. It was a great conference and I hope to build on some of the many great ideas that I picked up there.

The start of the new school year is two weeks from today and I can't wait for the students to return. The summer is always way too quiet on campus. From the students I have met so far I am excited about what this next year holds. What has me even more excited are a couple of new employees we have recently hired.

Jonathn White was recently hired as MBU's new campus minister. Jonathan comes to us from Murfreesboro, TN where he was serving as college pastor at the Church at Crosspoint.

Sheila (Morrow) Danhoff, '90, has returned to MBU as the director of Spirit Wing. Sheila was a member of the group from 1985 until she graduated in 1990. She brings a wealth of experience to the group after spending several years as the music producer/director at Grace Church St. Louis.

These two employees should have a profound impact on the student body and student ministries of MBU. I believe that we are on the verge of an awakening/revival on the campus of MBU and that God can work through these two employees, along with other employees and students, to begin a powerful work on our campus. Please join with me as we pray for God's Spirit to move on our campus this upcoming year.

Please join me in welcoming Phillip Hunt as a development officer at MBU. Mr. Hunt brings tons of experience in strategic fund-raising, estate planning, and Christian stewardship organization to the MBU Development Office. Please consider setting up an appoint with Phillip to discuss estate planning/charitable giving or invite him to lead a seminar at your church or business. I would be glad to help set this up for you. We could even plan a meeting at your church around a concert by Spirit Wing or one of our many other student minstry groups.

That's all I have time for today, check back in over the next few weeks and I'll let you know how the new school year is starting out. Until next time.

Rob
