Q. Am I required to live on campus?
A. Students are not required to live on campus; however, transportation
is essential to commute. For students that wish to live on campus, MBU
offers residence halls for men and women, as well as off-campus apartments
for upper-classmen. A campus living experience is recommended for a full
college experience.
Q. What is the student/teacher ratio?
A. The student-to-faculty ratio is 20 to 1. Small classrooms equates
to personal attention, deeper understanding, and meaningful relationships.
Q. Will I be able to have my car during my first year at college?
A. Yes! But students must register their intent to park a vehicle on campus
and obtain a parking hangtag by the first day of class each semester.
The cost for a semester's parking is $25. Resident parking is covered
in room/board, but residents must still register their vehicles.
Q. Do I have to be Baptist to attend MBU?
A. Being Baptist is not a requirement to be a student at MBU. We have
a diverse student body from various faiths and religious backgrounds.
However, active members of a Southern Baptist Church can receive a Denominational
Grant of $1,000 with a letter from the church.
Q. Is there a difference for In-State and Out-of-State tuition?
A. No, MBU is a private institution not supported by state or federal
funding.
Q. What is the male/female ratio at MBU?
A. MBU’s student body is 65% Female and 35% Male.
Q. Is there a dress code?
A. The guidelines for dress are intended to create an atmosphere of modesty
and dignity that are in agreement with the standards that set
MBU apart as a distinctive Christian University. Any article of clothing
that is considered immodest or otherwise inappropriate or in conflict with
the university standards should not be worn on campus.
Q. Is there a curfew?
A. There is no curfew for students living in the residence halls and the
lobby is open 24/7. However, non-residents are required to leave at 12
AM (2AM on weekends) when campus is formally closed.
Q. Is chapel required? When does it take place?
A. Chapel is held every Thursday and the first Tuesday of every month.
Students enrolled for nine or more credit hours on main campus are expected
to attend eighty percent of chapel services.
Q. What percentage of your faculty have obtained either their Doctorate
or terminal degree in their field of study?
A. At MBU you will find professors-not graduate students-teaching your
classes. MBU recruits the finest professors with an outstanding percentage-nearly
70%-with Ph.D' s or terminal degrees in their field.
Q. What is the student population?
A. MBU's total population is approximately 3,700 students. Approximately
1200 students (867 undergraduate and 384 graduate) attend our main campus
in west St. Louis County. Of these 1200 students, approximately 210 are resident
students. There are nearly 700 students enrolled collectively at our Jefferson
College, Troy-Wentzville, and Franklin County extension campuses, and almost
1700 high school students dually enrolled for college credit through our
Excel program.
Q. Does MBU offer evening classes?
A. MBU has a very strong evening program that offers year-round coursework
in eight week segments. For information about specific classes, contact

Q. Is there help available for people with special needs?
A. Yes. The Office of Special Needs Access offers services to students
who have documented disabilities of a permanent or temporary
nature. For information about services available, contact Dr.

Q. Are the dorms coed?
A. No. There is a women's residence hall and a men’s residence hall.
Dorm rooms are limited to same gender visitors, with the exception of
designated open dorm evenings (6PM-10PM).
Q. Are entrance tests required?
A. No. Placement in math and English classes are based on ACT composite
scores and classes taken in high school. Special arrangements concerning
individual classes must be made through department faculty.
Q. Are there any deadlines?
A. The Office of Admissions has a rolling admissions policy, so you may
submit your application at any time. Students wishing to interview for
competitive academic scholarships, however, must complete the application process
by January 30. Because of limited space in campus housing, students are
encouraged to finalize as soon as possible.
Q. Are accepted students required to mail in any type of deposit?
A. All students who have been accepted must mail a $100 deposit to the
Office of Admissions. This money will be applied toward the
cost of tuition. However, you cannot make a schedule with your
Admissions Counselor before this deposit has been received. If you are planning
to live on campus, you must send in a deposit of $200 with your application
materials in order to reserve a room.
Q. What is the "consortium program"?
A. MBU participates in an inter-collegiate consortium that includes Maryville
University, Webster University, Fontbonne College, and Lindenwood University.
MBU students who are registered for at least 12 hours may take courses
offered at any of these schools by cross-registering for them at MBU.
Q. How can I sign-up for travel-study?
A. MBU has study programs with more than fifty countries. Students interested
in studying abroad should first contact Mr. Bob Kilzer, Director of Study
International, at (314) 392-2120. MBU is directly affiliated with Harlaxton
College in Grantham, England and Hong Kong Baptist University, but if
a student is interested in a country or institution that we are not affiliated
with, this may also be an option.
Q. What is MBU’s accreditation?
A. MBU is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education
