Here is what English majors are saying…

“I before E except after C.”  How many times have we heard that in school?  After so long, sometimes English becomes tedious and monotonous; however, for me personally, this was never the case.  I love English and all its idiosyncrasies.  The English Department here at Missouri Baptist University fuels the fire for my love of English because all the professors are experts.  They are very knowledgeable, and they are willing to help all of their students succeed.  Every English class that I have been in teaches me so much.  Indeed, I would like to teach English at a high school; interacting with a caring and knowledgeable English faculty has prepared me for such a task.  Because of the English program here at MoBap, I already feel prepared to go out into the “real” world, and I know that I will succeed because of the example set before me.

I am currently a senior majoring in English at Missouri Baptist University.  Upon graduation in Spring 2006, I plan to teach English and Literature at my former high school.  The classes offered by the MoBap English Department have given me the knowledge and preparation I will need to teach.  The English professors that I have encountered are not only experts in their field, but they are willing to go above and beyond to ensure that their students succeed.  After changing my major several times in the last four years, I have found English to be the most enjoyable and satisfying—much of this is attributed to my experience in the MoBap English Program.

I decided to major in English because I have a passion for reading and writing.  I also hope to become a teacher in the future.  The teachers in the English Department at MBU truly care about their students and their success.  The small class sizes allow for a more personalized and focused learning environment.  The English program has also given me unique opportunities that have further benefited my education.  I am currently Student Fellow for Professor Dr. Mary Bagley, who has aided me in becoming a better student; she also has served as a model of an exceptional instructor and mentor.  I plan to take the knowledge and experiences that I have gained at MBU and obtain a position as a secondary education English teacher.

My name is Michael Williams.  I am a senior English major here at Missouri Baptist University.  Initially I chose an English degree to enable me to minister in China some day.  However, my love for writing has grown exponentially as I have completed my last few semesters with this degree.
Since my Bachelor degree has taken me over fifteen years to complete, I have truly seen this school grow and change for the better over an extended period of time.  I first began attending MBU in the fall of 1991.  Two years ago, I made the decision to commute three hours one way to continue finishing my degree here instead of either a closer school or an Internet alternative from another school.
At MBU, a Christian is able to witness many examples of professionals in a variety of fields who are not only ethically honest but also as intellectually and professionally savvy as my colleagues and peers in my profession who have mostly graduated from state universities.  In other words, just because MBU is a Christian school doe not mean that the graduates look out of place in the business world.
