The teacher certification program for health at Missouri Baptist University is a part of a planned integrated system (pattern) of coursework designed to enable the student to acquire a strong knowledge base and core of subject competencies All students seeking a health teaching certification are expected to demonstrate their competency in ten areas adopted by the Missouri State Board of Education. Specifically, these ten competency areas include:
- Command of subject matter
- Knowledge of pedagogy
- Understanding of development and learning
- Curriculum and planning
- Instructional planning
- Classroom management
- Teacher as communicator
- Teacher as evaluator
- Teacher as reflective practitioner
- Learning communities
