Introduction
Welcome to Segment I of the introductory orientation for web and web-enhanced courses, brought to you by the MBU Center for Distance Learning. MBU is proud to offer online courses, giving you the flexibility and convenience you need to complete coursework on your schedule while continuing to provide you with quality instruction, content, and resources equivalent to the traditional, campus-based environment.
Missouri Baptist University has teamed-up with Blackboard to deliver exceptional online courses as well as provide students access to web-based content for use in traditional courses. The Blackboard course management system is accessible 24/7/365 (except for occasional scheduled maintenance periods which are announced in advanced) via the Internet and gives you immediate access to course content as well as communication tools such as e-mail, discussion boards, and chat rooms.
This orientation will show you how to get logged on to Blackboard and access your individual courses. You will also learn how to use the various tools provided by the Blackboard course management system as well as some useful tips and tricks to make your experience with Blackboard a success.
Getting Started
In order to get started using Blackboard, you must first register for your courses through your academic advisor or the admissions office. Once you have completed the registration process a Blackboard account will automatically be created for you. You will also want to make sure your computer meets Blackboard’s minimum hardware and software recommendations. You can view Blackboard’s browser requirements by clicking on the link below. Once you are sure your system meets the minimum requirements, you are ready to log on to Blackboard.
Logging On to Blackboard
You can log into Blackboard using your MBU network username and password. When you first enrolled at MBU, you should have received an e-mail message containing your username and password, along with login and password recovery instructions. If you did not receive this e-mail message, or you do not know your username or password, please contact the MBU IT Office for assistance at (314) 392-2377 or helpdesk@mobap.edu.
To access Blackboard, go to
http://blackboard.mobap.edu in your Web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer,

When you first logon to Blackboard you will see a page similar to the page shown below in Figure 6. This page is called the "My Institution" page. The My Institution page gives you immediate access to the most current information about the courses you are currently enrolled in, such as recent announcements, important dates on your course calendars, and a listing of the courses in which you are enrolled.

At the top of the page below the Missouri Baptist University banner, you will see two tabs, one titled “My Institution”, and the other “Courses” (See Figure 7 below). You can alternate between the My Institution page and the My Courses page by clicking on either of the two tabs.

The "My Courses" page (See Figure 8 below) simply lists all of the courses in which you are enrolled for the current semester.
