The following hardware and software are minimum specifications to work with the Blackboard application:
Platform: Windows XP or Vista (Windows 98 or 2000 are also OK); MacOS X
Hardware: 128 MB of RAM (256 MB recommended), 5 GB of free disk space
Software: Microsoft Office (recommended), Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player
Browser: Internet Explorer 6 or later (IE7 recommended), Safari, Firefox 2.0 or later
NOTE: JavaScript & Cookies must be enabled.
Modem: 56 K (Cable or DSL recommended for media-rich courses)
Note for Windows Vista Users: Due to a known compatibility problem between the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system and the Microsoft Outlook Web Access client (our campus e-mail system), it is recommended that you use the Firefox Web browser (v2.0 or later). If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or 7 on Windows Vista, you will only be able to read your e-mail through the Outlook Web Access, you will not be able to reply or send. This issue is a problem with Microsoft's products, and is outside of our control. You can download Firefox here.
Note for AOL Users: The AOL browser is not compatible with Blackboard. This is a known issue with AOL's software which affects all AOL users who try to access Blackboard, thus it is completely outside of our control. If you use AOL for your Internet service, follow these steps to access Blackboard:
- Log into AOL as you normally do.
- Minimize the AOL browser (you will remain connected to the Internet)
- Launch Internet Explorer (not AOL) directly from the Start Menu.
- Using Internet Explorer (not AOL) log into Blackboard at http://blackboard.mobap.edu
